I’m Hungry!  My stomach is growling and unhappy.

I actually have to skip two meals today.  I’ve scheduled a medical test for 1:00 p.m. this afternoon (the earliest they could do it) and I have to go without food until after the test.

So, I’m thinking about our homeless folks at the Amazing Grace mission today.  I’m wondering how painful it is for them to miss meals, maybe just one in a day, maybe missing meals for a full day, or many days.  Does the pain ever quit gnawing at their bellies.  Can they think about anything else besides the hunger?

It’s only 8:43 a.m.  I’ve only missed breakfast, but it’s all I can think about because I know I can’t eat until after at least 2:00 p.m.  But I know the meal will be there when I can have it.  I know there’s money in my wallet to buy it.  I’m blessed.  I’m blessed in many ways.  I’m blessed with a hard working husband who affords me the time to volunteer for all my “projects.”  I’m blessed with a beautiful home and three squares a day and then some.  I’m blessed with family and children.  I’m blessed to have found a church where I feel like I’m with family and I feel comfortable looking for God there.

So, what’s my point?  Maybe we should all fast for a day to remember our blessings.  Maybe we should take the $10 we spend at Starbucks, or the $20 we spend going out to lunch one day a week and donate it.  Take your dining out budget for this week and buy socks and underwear for the homeless.  Buy some backpacks for the Street Teens.  Sacrifice.   Skip Taco Bell this afternoon and give that $6 to someone who has to skip a few meals today.

 Count your blessings.

James 2: 14

What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds."
Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.
